On a trip to the Lake District these past few days, I had high hopes for the Business Nav in my F30. It disappointed hugely.

I made sure I selected 'avoid tolls / pre-paid routes' but nothing else.

On the way up, I selected 'fastest route' - it proceeded to take me on a myriad of different A-roads and motorways to get there.

On the return leg, it was disastrous - I chose 'eco pro route' thinking it would get me to mostly the motorways - not so! I ended up in several TOWNS, including Bradford (seemingly a breeding ground for speed cameras) and the like. Next to no motorways again!

I have no doubt this Nav would help me find unknown places, but compared to the Tom Tom's navigation, this was rubbish.

Tom Tom would always take me for miles on the same motorway and a much more direct route - I guess I'll have to scrap the Sat Nav and resort to AA map instead for long journeys?

Who would have thought?

So why did it not take the most direct route? Surely the fastest route would be the m6, yet we were hardly on that at all? Do I need to update the software, and if so, how would I do that? Can't understand why the bulk of the journey, the m6, didn't come up on any of the different route modes....

You sure the traffic info didn't think there was an incident? And you have fastest not shortest?

Sometimes mine will go weird ways to save minutes or metres.

A Garmin I had years ago made me come off a motorway and drive parallel for a junction because it didn't know that one was an M road and the other not. The shorter route was deemed faster. It wasn't.

It was terrible. Only found motorway (M60) near the end, and then I decided to ignore it at last when it tried to bring me away from that, and I headed for the A1 instead. Goodness knows why it can't cope with finding the M6 at the start of the return leg?

I've lost all faith in it after only one trip away if I'm honest...... will be the good old fashioned AA handbook from now on. Unless there's some way of updating or improving it.
